Corporal Bryan Munce, Trials Manager & Technical Lead, Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ATDU)

Corporal Bryan Munce is the Trials Manager & Technical Lead of Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ATDU) for Project LURCHER, the full electrification of four in-service vehicles.

He joined 3 PARA in 2009 and carried out regimental duty in a Rifle and Support Company (Anti-Tank Platoon) and operated multiple vehicles including HMTV (Jackal) and RWMIK.

2010-2011, Corporal Munce observed the potential for electrically propelled vehicles on Op HERRICK 13, after understanding the impact of the acoustic signature of quad bikes on operations.

He then conducted numerous mounted exercises from Kenya, USA, Falklands and throughout Europe including Tactic Air Land Operation exercises on UK and US aircraft. He also trained as a Driving and Maintenance Instructor, becoming an expert on operation and workings of light military land platforms. Sensing an opportunity, 16 Air Assault Brigade facilitated his posting at the Armour Trials and Development Unit, where Corporal Munce’s skills and energy could be fully realised.

As an Anti-Tank Detachment Commander at ATDU, Corporal Munce has completed numerous reports including ‘Light Mobility’ that has helped inform the Protected Mobility Pipeline and now the Land Mobility Programme (LMP).

Beyond his military contributions, Cpl Munce has competed at Army and Inter-service level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Blue and Purple belt. He also volunteers regularly at his local Armature Boxing club and local events.
