2022 Winner: Joju Charging
Joju Charging has seen a year of exceptional growth, increasing projects sold by 230 per cent. It has also been meeting increased levels of demand through careful expansion, growing the company by 30 per cent. Joju is working with over 100 different local authorities, councils, and other public bodies on various charging projects, from scoping studies through to EV infrastructure installation and after care. In the past year, it has completed 1,300 more projects.

Elmtronics believes in a world where electrified mobility is fully inclusive, and they have installed over 5,000 domestic, public and workplace charge points, from 7kW home solutions to 150kW rapid chargers. Since January 2019, its back office programme has over 2,000 members recording over 100,000 charging logs, saving 170,000 tonnes of CO2.

SWARCO UK eVolt was Initially formed as a division of APT Controls over eight years ago and has become one of the largest charging providers across Scotland, England, NI & Wales. eVolt posts, manufactured by Circontrol of Barcelona, are a familiar sight, providing reliable, cost-effective and easy to use equipment which inspires range confidence, accelerates EV uptake, and helps meet climate goals.

ElectrAssure has specialised in EV charging systems for the past 6 years, delivering for clients including Uber, National Grid, British Car Auctions and Saint Gobain. The company overcame obstacles of limited power availability and limited mobile data connection to deliver a 120kW Delta Ultracharger charging system that Jaguar Land Rover R&D engineers described as ‘the best charging solution that we have seen for the iPace’. ElectrAssure is NICEIC, ECA, OLEV and Safecontractor approved.
Elmtronics
Elmtronics has installed over 3000 AC fast and DC rapid charging stations, as well as home charge points, including a project with Teesside University on the UK’s first induction charging system. In 2018, Elmtronics was appointed to install and manage charging infrastructure for the UK’s largest used vehicle marketplace, British Car Auctions (BCA). The project enhanced the groups infrastructure throughout several sites in the UK, enabling the uptake of electric and plug-in hybrids within their fleet.
The Phoenix Works
With over 3000 charging stations installed to date, The Phoenix Works has a wealth of experience and knowledge. In September 2018, the company merged with Tonik Energy, a 100% renewable energy supplier. This partnership will increase its regional installer base and allow the launch of an renewable energy EV charging network, Fueˉl, which will allow true roaming between operators.
Franklin Energy
In 2016, Franklin launched ‘LiFe’, the first UK’s privately funded charging network, in partnership with Q Park. Since then the network has grown and now has installations in every major city in the UK. Currently using 22kW AC for fast chargers and 50kW DC for rapid chargers, by the end of this year, the firm anticipates having 150kW rapid DC charging available for new electric vehicles such as the Jaguar I-Pace.
SRG Electrical
Established in 2007, the company is primarily focused on commercial, domestic and on street installations and has currently installed over 3500 charge points across the UK. Its portfolio of projects includes Downing Street, the Ministry of Defence, MOD, the London fire brigade and British Airways as well as on street charging in Brighton, Waltham Forest, Islington, Hackney and Lambeth. SRG continues to actively promote the uptake of green vehicles through social media posts, billboard adverts and magazine articles.
2017 Winner: Chargemaster plc
Chargemaster owns and operates the POLAR network of over 5,000 publicly available points across the UK. Its 300th fast charging unit was installed earlier this year, with 20 more added each month. To support the network, Chargemaster has tripled the size of its customer services team in 18 months while extending the opening hours of its customer service helpline. This year also saw the company launched Powercharge, a new compact electric vehicle charging point designed specifically for workplace charging. The new unit can provide businesses with a simple solution without the need for keys or RFID cards.

Established in 2014, Elmtronics is primarily focused on the commercial charging for private companies and public entities, providing an end to end offering to its customers, including selection and installation of the charging equipment, on-going maintenance (24/7 customer support), and software solutions to manage the back office and customer interface. To date, Elmtronics has over 2,000 charging points across the UK and hold approximately 7 per cent of the EV charging market. The company benefits from an excellent customer satisfaction (9.1 out of 10) based on customer friendly, reactive and reliable customer service.
The Phoenix Works
Phoenix Works offers a range of energy saving technologies, specialising in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, solar photovoltaic systems and battery storage solutions. With over 2500 EV charging stations installed to date, the company has extensive experience with a wide variety of manufacturers and models. In 2015, The Phoenix Works was appointed to design, install and manage an Electric Vehicle rapid charging project for City of York Council, which involved installing seven, 50kW rapid charging stations in just six days including civil and electrical works.
New Motion
With access to more than 50,000 public charge points, NewMotion’s charge card and app gives users the ability to plug into networks in Belgium, Germany, UK, Luxembourg, Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, Finland, Denmark, Malaysia and Switzerland. Users are provided with real-time insight on charge tariffs and availability of charge points. Earlier this year, NewMotion issued its 100,000th registered charge card and signed deals with Total giving its fuel card holders access to the NewMotion charging network. More recently, Shell signed an agreement to buy NewMotion in a deal that will accelerate the transition to low-carbon transport.
APT Controls/EVOLT
APT Controls’ eVolt has rapidly emerged as a leader in commercial EV charging solutions. From its single point chargers up to the most sophisticated multi-point and rapid charging solutions, each of its systems is best-in-class. With more than 4,000 units currently installed, eVolt works with more than 60 local authorities and private businesses throughout the UK, delivering solutions for whole fleets of buses and local authority vehicles. Launched in March this year, the Raption 5 rapid charging unit completes an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes with simultaneous charging for two EVs at 50kW DC and 43kW AC.
